Pretty Cool Thing: Seattle Park(ing) Day

parkOn September 20th, people will be constructing their own mini-parks on would-be parking spaces on the side of the street. The event, called Seattle Park(ing) day, will last from 9a.m. to 3p.m. Even if you’re someone trapped in a car, upset at the fresh lack of parking spaces available, this unique and innovative way to promote green love, communal involvement, and creativity has to seem like an awesome idea. Only a city that truly wants to keep its natural elements around would do something like this. If you’re interested in creating your own mini-park (anyone can apply!) I hereby direct you to this page (the deadline is this Friday). My only suggestion to the city would be to take this further. How about a no-cars allowed day? Seattle could be its own Venice, Italy for 24 hours. But I can dream. Until then, I’m enthralled to live in a place where pianos can annually exist on little green patches lining our usual overdose of concrete.

If you were to make a mini-park, what would you put in it?
